Protecting your account
Practical steps to keep your account and money safe.
Keep the deal on Gear Depot
Almost every attempt to defraud someone on a marketplace starts with moving the conversation or the payment off it. A buyer or seller who wants to pay by bank transfer, a payment app, a cheque, or cash is asking you to give up the payout hold, the inspection window, and the dispute process at once.
What Gear Depot will never do
- Ask you for your password.
- Ask you to pay a seller directly, outside checkout.
- Ask you to move a transaction to another site to "avoid fees".
Sensible precautions
- Use a password you do not use anywhere else.
- Keep the email address on your account current — it is how account recovery
works.
- Review your store's team members periodically and remove anyone who no longer
needs access.
- Be wary of urgency. Pressure to act immediately is a tactic.
