Verified Business

What it means when a store carries the Verified Business mark.

What the mark means

Verified Business

When a store shows the Verified Business mark, Gear Depot verified the business:

  • The business's legal registration was verified against an authoritative business registry, or through documented review of its registration papers.
  • The legal business identity and tax details were verified by our regulated payments provider (IRS legal-name/tax-ID match, prohibited-party screening).
  • The person who set up the store confirmed they are authorized to act for the business.
  • The store's payout account belongs to that verified business.
  • When the store's public name differs from the legal name, the store proved its right to that trade name (DBA) — otherwise the mark is withheld.

Verification is monitored: if a business's verified details materially change, or its standing changes, the mark is paused or removed until re-verified.

What the mark does NOT mean

The Verified Business mark is an identity signal, not a guarantee. It does not mean:

  • that any particular listing's condition or description is guaranteed,
  • that fulfillment or shipping quality is guaranteed,
  • that every item the store lists is authentic,
  • that Gear Depot vouches for the business's financial standing,
  • or that you should skip the normal protections — every purchase still goes through protected checkout with an inspection window.

The Verified Business mark is also separate from the Preferred Seller status, which reflects marketplace track record — a seller can hold either, both, or neither.

How businesses get verified

Business stores verify their legal details during onboarding. Payout verification completes automatically in minutes for most legitimate US businesses; the Verified Business mark additionally requires the independent registration check, and some businesses need to provide a specific document or a short human review. Verification is free and never purchasable — no subscription or fee changes the outcome.
