Choosing a listing condition

How Gear Depot describes the state of used equipment.

Two things buyers want to know

Gear Depot describes condition along two separate axes, because they are genuinely different questions:

  • Functional condition — does it work?
  • Cosmetic condition — how does it look?

A road-worn amp that works perfectly and a mint-looking unit with an intermittent channel are not the same listing, and buyers of used production gear care about the difference.

Be specific in your notes

The condition notes are where you earn trust. Describe the marks, the hours, the channel that is slightly noisy, the missing hardware. A buyer who reads an accurate description is far less likely to open a dispute — and an inaccurate one is the most common reason a dispute succeeds.
